Modern day Lynching
In 1925 New York city at NACCP headquarters a peculiar flag flew from a second story window. The flag flew facing the front of building facing a busy downtown street. On the sign were the latest statistic of the lynching of a black person that day. The number would change sometimes daily. Usually the lynching was in the southern states. Usually a white mob did the killing and a hanging had occurred. Sometimes burning had occurred. These days lynching is probably not as frequent but it continues none the less Lynching also not relegated to the white mob but to individuals with high powered rifles rather than with ropes. The frequent culprit is a rogue policeman or policemen. The hate that some whites feel toward blacks is not distinguished until the macabre lynching ceremony has taken place. Lynching and hate have no place in society if we are ever going to have peace in this country we will have to learn to love each other rather to hate each other.
