My EXPERINCE

In 1954 segregation of schools was made illegal in public schools. Reluctantly in especially schools in the south of the country desegregated. Well, sort of. I attended a public school in Waynesville Missouri. Every morning on school days myself and other black children would go up stairs and go into a very large school room. The rows of many desks filled the room. Rows in the front 1st graders sat and each row behind had the subsequent grade. All the way back to the rows for 12th grade. There was one teacher for room. Mr. Thompson was his name. This was integration for the black students. Students helped in teaching younger children. I was enlisted to skip recess to correct the work of children to at the same and lower grades. How can children learn in this environment

They cannot. But this is repeated at schools especially in the South, Blacks went to inferiors schools since slavery. Inferior schools, books handed down from white schools and supplies etc. Now I learn mathematics was discovered but because of racist attitudes the world do not hear this truth. How many people could be encouraged by the very thought that I can be a mathematician as my forefathers! The narrative is the black is a useless being only good to be used as a slave, a beast of burden. This is same attitude haters have today. Below the surface they could not care less. Let the correction of this slight start with us who can talk to the administrators and teachers to make sure students know the truth of this. Gerald Greenwood Sr.
